Test Shoot One

Last week we had a peer review session at the University of Cumbria with a guest lecturer Anna Bridges who runs Carlisle Photo Festival. She was there to give her feedback from her professional point of view. For the session we had to bring a long all the work we had done so far for our final major project. For my project 'All but clear' I am addressing the issues of life after receiving the all clear diagnosis after treatment for cancer. I am continuing this project from last semester where I used studio portraiture accompanied by text to tell the stories of 3 individuals of their experiences and struggles since receiving the all clear diagnosis. For this semester I'm developing the project into moving image and having audio instead of text accompanying the portraiture.

This is an image of my first set up in the studio as a test shoot. I had a few technical difficulties as it required a completely different set up from my portrait images last semester. I had to use different light dishes to create the Rembrandt lighting on the face of the subject. I ended up using the spot light rather than a beauty dish as the lighting on the face wasn't coming out as intended. Also I needed to add a light box as a fill light to create detail in the full body. As it was a video rather than an image with a flash the lights had to be on constant which took a little bit of time finding the right levels in order for the subject to show in frame.
