For any working photographer fundraising is one of the most important issues that are faced. Before starting to shoot for a project as a photographer you need to have a plan of your costs such as travel, kit, film, food/water e.t.c. Raising Funds may mean you have to apply for grants or commissions from certain businesses or even come up with ways to raise your own money.
For our degree show we had set a target of £1000 in order to for us to create the exhibition and everything else that goes with it. We worked out that the brochures alone would cost around the £500 mark so making £1000 was vital to make the exhibition a success. We had brainstormed a few ideas as ways we could raise the money early on and split into a few small teams to look after each event. I was left in charge of organising a fundraiser at the nightclub 'Bombshelter' in Carlisle. I had been to a few fundraisers before at Bombshelter so I had a good understanding of what were successful ways to make money during the night. We had decided on beer pong, flip cup, face painting and a photobooth as our stalls to raise money. Once this was sorted we started our promotion in order to attract as many people as possible.
On the night of the fundraiser we each took an activity each to look after. Megan took entry fees on the door, Dan was our photographer, Mark and Cameron looked after beer pong, kirsty did the face painting and I looked after flip cup. Overall it was a really successful night, all in all making £250 which was a great start to raising our £1000 goal.
