CV Development

Updated: May 1, 2020

Having a well formed, fluid and interesting CV is vital for any form of job application and not just in the world of photography. Over the past two years of University we have had various lectures and guest speakers regarding professional development and life after University. CV writing has played a massive part in this. We have been taught what to include and what not to include, how it should be laid out, and how to tailor it specifically to what ever the job is you are applying for.

As part of our assessments this semester we have been given the task of mock applying for a real life job role and also having a mock interview. The job role I applied for was a studio photographer with the clothing brand BoohooMAN. Having done some studio work while at University and an interest in fashion I believed that this role would suit me well. From what we had previously learned about CV making I knew that my current CV needed changing in order for it to be successful.

As well as a CV we need an accompanying cover letter, which for me is completely new, I've never had to write one before. Similarly to the CV this had to be tailored to the specific job that was advertised. To write the cover letter i looked back at the job description and picked out key words that they used for what they're looking for which allowed me to show that I have the required skills in which they're looking for. Also a key tip I learned was to research the company as a way of seemingly knowledgeable about the company and to show your interest. Once i had all this information as well as a presentation of advise from Careers team I found it a lot easier to get writing.

Over the 3 years of University we have had the pleasure of looking at a vast amount o photographers and a variety of different work. One of my favourite bodies of work I have came across is 'Niagara'

Home Based Photographers

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak it has challenged the way in which we work, it has limited and restricted what we are capable of shooting. Having to find new methods of working due to these restrictions
